ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Jessica Fisher The Cougar Athlete of the Week is senior golfer Jessica Fisher. Jessica led the Lady Cougars golf team to a 3rd place team finish in the Northern Lakes League Championship this season. She placed 7th overall at the NLL Tournament which was played at Eagles’ Landing Golf Course. This is good for 2nd team All NLL Honors. Head coach Matt Fojtik commented, “Jessica is our Senior captain and plays in the #1 position for the girls golf team. She has earned 2nd team honors in the NLL and NWOGGL. She will also be an All-Ohio Academic recipient. Jessica is always positive in her efforts on and off the course. Her honesty, integrity, dedication and sportsmanship shines bright each and every match.” Jessica is also a member of the National Honor Society, the Chick-fil-a Leadership Academy and the Tri-M Music Society. Besides being a member of the golf team, Jessica plays the oboe and flute and is a member of the Southview Marching Band. She is also a member of the Toledo Symphony Youth Orchestra and is currently interning with the Toledo Symphony. Jessica has a 4.2 GPA and will major in Arts Management at an undecided college. ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Cooper Grill The Cougar Athlete of the Week is sophomore golfer Cooper Grill. Cooper led the Varsity Cougars Golf Team this year with a scoring average of 39.25 in Northern Lakes League matches. He also led the team by amassing 56 league points. In the NLL Championship at Eagles’ Landing, Cooper's score of 75 tied for 6th place in the league which qualifies him for 1st Team All NLL Honors. Coach Newnham commented, "Cooper is at the top of his game right now. He is a very smart player who has a very high ceiling. It is a pleasure to coach Cooper and I look forward to his Junior and Senior seasons." Cooper was also on the freshman basketball team and maintains a 3.5 GPA. Congratulations Cooper!
The Cougar Athlete of the Week is senior Natalie Nagel. Natalie placed 11th out of 190 girls and led Lady Cougars to a 3rd place finish at the Tiffin Carnival on September 7th. At the Mel Brodt Invitational on August 31st, she placed 10th out of 180 girls. As a senior, Natalie has beaten her previous personal record by 46 seconds in just the first three meets. Head coach Taylor Bosl commented, "After having a successful track season last year, I knew Natalie would improve tremendously this year. Her work ethic and competitiveness is contagious and felt throughout our entire team. Natalie has been a valuable asset and always helps put our team in great scoring position. It's been fun watching her develop and improve as a runner throughout the past three years. I know this is just the beginning of a great senior year and it will be fun watching what else she accomplishes this season." In addition to running cross country and track, Natalie is in the National Honor Society, the marching band, the Tri-M Music Honor Society, and has a 4.7 GPA. Congratulations Natalie!
The Cougar Athlete of the Week is senior Caitlin O’Shea. Cait has had a great start to her senior season which is her third year on the varsity squad! She has team highs in several statistical categories on offense and defense. Cait has a team high 29 kills (3rd best in the NLL so far), an attack percentage of 37.7% (3rd best in the NLL so far) and 16 blocks (tops in the NLL). She also has 5 aces and 10 digs! Head coach Michael Sebring added, “Cait has really stepped up as a team leader this year, which is much needed given the graduation of six seniors and strong leadership from last year's squad. Her enthusiasm and positive energy are contagious to her teammates and has helped lead the Cougars to a 4-0 start to the season!” Off the court, Caitlin is a LINK leader, a member of the National Honor Society and carries a 3.8 GPA in the classroom.
